What is a bedside cot?

A bedside crib, also referred to as a bassinet or a co-sleeper, is a small baby cot attached to your adult bed. This allows your child to sleep next to you in safety. This is a safe form of co-sleeping, which doesn't increase your risk of SIDS as bedsharing does. It can also help you bond with your newborn baby.
These cots have a side which can be adjusted to allow you to reach your baby easily at night to soothe and feed them. This is particularly beneficial for mothers recovering from the c-section. Many of them are portable or foldable making them suitable for travel and as an interim solution for babies who aren't ready to be able to transition to a larger crib.

The Tutti Bambini COZee air crib comes with a removable fabric and wipe-clean lining. This makes it much easier to clean than some bedside cribs which can create messy to clean. It also has an upper bar that can be easily adjusted to accommodate nighttime feedings without having to mess with zips.

The Iora is an infant bassinet designed to make parents feel more connected to their baby as they sleep. It can be adjusted both up and down and shifted through three different slide positions, to fit beside the bed of the parent or in the corner, so the baby is always in reach. The mesh siding allows air to flow through and allows you to see your baby easily. You can also store additional pajamas or other items in the large storage basket beneath.
The Iora is a smaller bedside cot that folds flat. It also comes with a travel case so it can be carried anywhere. Our mom testers found it easy to move from room to room, and believed it was a great size for a small bedside cot that was not too big or too small. The large storage basket is great for storing extra bedding or nappies.
This is a great choice for parents who wish to co-sleep, but don't wish to share their bed. Also, if one of the partners has mobility issues such as back pain or arthritis. Our mums who tested it loved the ease with which they could access their child in the Iora and that it included an option to have a reflux incline which helped alleviate gas.
Our mums appreciate that the mattress follows NICE guidelines. They recommend placing the baby in a Moses basket or crib on its own, without blankets, toys or pillows. The mattress is also sturdy and comfortable for babies and sheets are easy to find. It's not as light as other cribs that are smaller on our list, so if you prefer something lighter and easier to move around, consider a different option.
